(U.S.) My Little Pony Mail Orders {A-D}

For Mint In Package Pictures of all the Mail Order Ponies on this page (plus accessories), click here.

What is a mail order pony?  A mail order pony was available only by sending a certain amount of horseshoe points and/or x amount of dollars.   In some inserts shipping was included with the price of the pony and in some it wasn't.   Horseshoe points came on the backs of the packages, located on lower left-hand corner.  They came during various years, and are some of the most sought after My Little Ponies around.
Where did you find mail order ponies?  They came as special offers in brochures.  Each brochure had pictures of the pony and a price listing and order form.  A close up of a brochure is pictured right, along with some mail order ponies.  Some came with paper leaflets or feature leaflets.  For example, Baby Ember came with a leaflet devoted just to ordering her.
How were they packaged?  They were sent in Hasbro's plain brown packaging boxes.  Each came inside a plastic bag, and some even came with accessories.
Several of the ponies sold in stores were also sold as mail order ponies, as you will see on the right.  Pictured about are four rainbow ponies that were also sold in stores,  yet this particular set of ponies are still very rare.  Also pictured is their brochure.

You can find Chuck E. Cheese Baby Pony under Year 9.  She is often mistaken for a mail order; but she was actually sold as a prize at Chuck E. Cheese restaurants.

Baby Birthday Ponies, Baby Sugarcake and Baby Gametime

The Baby Birthday Ponies are shown as boys in their first leaflet.  Click here to see that insert.  However, they have always been released as girls.  Each pony was offered for $5.50 + 2 horseshoe points or $7.00 with none.  They were offered in 1989 and again in 1990.  They are characterized by Ember's pose, blue eyes, brilliant colors and Happy Birthday and balloon animal symbols.

There aren't really any other birthday related babies (except Baby Frosting), but there are several Birthday related adults.  The Birthday Pony was released in honor of My Little Ponies 10th year.  The Birthflower Ponies are mail order ponies that commemorate each month of the year.  Tutti Fruitti was a U. K. issue that came with a birthday party pack.  The U. S. Party Pack came with five party related ponies.

Please also note the accessories that came with the Birthday Sisters.  These accessories were also part of the Party Pack.  The Pin-the-tail-on-the-pony game is the same one that came with the Party Pack, also the plate, cake, blower, and game accessories.

These were not actively available in stores in the U. K.

Baby Gametime
(earth pony) is pink with yellow hair with a pink streak.  She has a blue balloon dog symbol with "happy birthday"  written next to it.  She is in Ember's pose and has blue eyes.

Baby Sugarcake (earth pony) is yellow with pink hair with a blue streak.  She has a pink balloon giraffe symbol with "happy birthday" written next to it.  She has blue eyes and is in Ember's pose.

They came with the following accessories, pin-the-tail-on-the-pony game with blindfold, a slice of pink birthday cake with yellow candle, blue plate, and pink party favor.

Baby Buggy with Baby Cuddles (Beddy Eyed Version)

Baby Cuddles
(earth pony) is blue with pink hair and a pink rattle.  She has beddy eyes.  This is the second version of Baby Cuddles.
Baby Buggy was white with a pink top and purple wheels.  It included:  purple bottle, brush, rattle, blanket and pillow.
It was also sold in stores in 1985. It includes the same accessories as the store version.  There is also a store version of Baby Cuddles and the Baby Buggy in which Cuddles has non Beddy Bye Eyes.  This is the more commonly found version.

The Baby Buggy was sold in Year 6 (1987) for $8.00 + 2 horseshoe points or $10.50 + no horseshoe points.

Baby Pearlized Ponies

These were almost identical to first set of baby ponies, except with pearlized bodies and other subtle differences.   The regular Baby Ponies can be viewed in Year 3.  The pearlized versions all share the same poses as the previous Baby Ponies.  However, Baby Pearlized Ponies have no glittery symbols and glistened pearl covering their entire bodies.  Baby Blossom and Cotton Candy are basically the same as the regular versions, but lack the freckles on the nose.  Baby Firefly's colors remained basically the same.  Baby Glory and Baby Surprise received new body colors (and Baby Glory has a new hair color).  Baby Moondancer is renamed is Baby Moondreamer and loses the stripe in her hair.

They was sold for $3.95 +1 horseshoe point or $4.75 + no horseshoe points.  You could get all 6 for $19.95 plus 4 horseshoe points or $22.95 without.  They were offered in 1990.

An odd fact:  Their Mail Order leaflets calls them Baby Pearlized Ponies.  However, the actual correct English spelling is Pearlised.

These were not actively available in stores in the U. K.  Click on the thumbnail below to enlarge photograph.baby_p28.jpg (23757 bytes)

Baby Sisters, Li'l Sweetcake and Li'l Cupcake

The Baby Sisters are a pair of siblings, one newborn and one peek-a-boo pony.  They both have pastry related symbols, soft colors (one pink and blue and the other with reversed colors), and purple eyes.

Li'l Cupcake
(unicorn) is pink with aqua hair and has a white cupcake with a red cherry on top.  She is in a newborn mold, her body is slightly smaller than they standard baby pony.  She has purple eyes.  She shares the same pose as Baby Wiggles.

Birthflower Ponies

The Birthflower ponies were special ponies to commemorate each birth month. They have no formal names unless you wish to call them by their flower.  You will hear them referred to by flower, like Rose or Water Lily.  You will also hear them referred to by month, June or July Birthflowers.  They could be purchased as one unit or purchased individually.  Each month is labeled with the appropriate symbol.

Related Ponies:  The Birthday Pony was released in honor of My Little Ponies 10th year.  The Baby Birthday Ponies are mail order ponies that birthday related symbols and accessories.  Tutti Fruitti was a U. Blue Ribbon

Blue Ribbon
(baby earth pony) is all blue with a purple first place ribbon symbol.  She stands in Baby Ember's pose.  She has dark purple eyes.

She has a plastic blue ribbon clip accessory.  She came with a game called "Adventures in Ponyland" that actually uses Baby Blue Ribbon as one of the playing pieces.  The board itself was made of paper, and made in 1986 (pictured right is the actual board). It features a stroll through different places in Ponyland eventually ending up at the Paradise Estate, where the winner's circle is.  Blue Ribbon awards her blue ribbon clip to the winner (see ribbon below).  The board also comes with paper dice.  Special cards came with certain store versions of ponies that could also be used in conjunction with the game. She was available only by mail order.
A huge thanks to Crumpet for use of the photograph of Blue Ribbon's actual ribbon.  Visit her at Crumpet's Place.  This photograph is copyrighted.

Related Ponies:  Baby Ember (blue) appears similar in color to Blue Ribbon and they share the same pose.  They can be mistaken for one another. Rosette is a U. K. pony with ribbon symbols.

I did not list her as Baby Blue Ribbon because the insert that she came with only referred to her as Blue Ribbon.  However, you may often hear her referred to as Baby Blue Ribbon.  She was not available in the U. K.

Related Ponies:  Lucky is the first pony to with Clipper's mold, being released as a Mail Order in Year 4.  Other boy ponies in this mold include male siblings of the Loving Family Ponies.  The more common boy males have feathered hooves, the Playtime Brother Ponies.

He was made in 1987 and 1988, and available only through mail order.
He was offered for $3.50 + 1 horseshoe point, and he was offered in 1987.

Pictured below if the insert for Clipper.  He appears darker in the insert.

Collector Ponies

These were sold in stores before they ever became mail orders.  The store versions came out as Flat Foot Collector Ponies in 1982 and Concave Foot Collector Ponies in 1983.  The Mail Order versions were much the same as the store issues, the plastic is a bit harder on the Mail Order versions and the stance in wider. These were offered in 1985, $3.00 + 2 horseshoe points. Or you could get all 6 for $15.00 + 2 horseshoe points.

Each comes packaged with an original comb and a ribbon, to see a listing of colors for each pony see the Mint in Package Mail Order section.

Blue Belle is blue with purple hair and purple stars.
Butterscotch is gold with
gold butterflies.

Christmas Baby Pony (Rice Crispies Mail Order)

Christmas Baby Pony
(earth pony) is white withstockingsmelissa.jpg (28991 bytes) long red hair and a green hanging stocking.  She is nicknamed Baby Stockings by some, but originally has no name.  She is in Ember's pose and has green eyes.  She was a Year 9 release.  Thanks to Melissa for use of this photograph, please visit her site at the Royal Fortress.
stockings.jpg (4030 bytes)

She is a unique mail order in that she wasn't ordered directly from Hasbro's brochures that came with a pony.  She was offered as a Mail Order from specially marked boxes of Rice Crispies; I am assuming she was offered around Christmas time (1989).  Pictured right is a brochure that came with her.  For this reason you will also hear her called the Rice Crispies Baby.  She is one of the most common mail orders (people must have eaten a lot of Rice Crispies).

There are two other Christmas related ponies:  Stockings, who is also a mail order pony and Merry Treat, who was sold in stores.   These were not actively available in stores in the U. K.
