Hasbro S
ofties (Earth Ponies and Unicorns and Pegasus)

::Earth Ponies (Year 2):: ::Earth Ponies (Year 3):: ::Unicorns and Pegasus::

Hasbro Softies made their first appearance early in My Little Pony history; they were sold from 1983-1986. They were the official line of plushes from Hasbro and they had a long and successful run. The actual names of the plushes are Softies. You may hear them referred to by a variety of names, most commonly as plushes. Also, Softies and Plushies. Each is about 12 inches tall, has a soft body, comb able mane and tail, round plastic eyes, and sewn-on symbols. They also have a standard Hasbro Softies tag (see example right) and a twined loop on their backs, these shouldn't be removed unless they were cut off from the plush. Also, there are. They also come with a square tag and a comb (with a hole in the end of it). Star shine's tag example is pictured below, each tag featured that particular pony. It also bears the My Little Pony logo. The tag and comb usually get separated from the pony over time.

Hasbro Softies came in a variety of colors and styles, all based on My Little Ponies from the 1982, 1983, and 1984 with the exception of the International exclusive, Honeycomb. Most were issues and reissued the following years. The first issues were earth ponies, having no horn or wings. Later, Unicorns and Pegasus were issued as well. Even later, beautiful Rainbow Ponies made an appearance. Then, lastly, the Mother and Baby Sets were issued.

Hasbro Softies were not the only My Little Pony plushes to be issued, there are also the Applause Plushes. The Applause plushes were just four ponies issued in 1982. Those ponies are Blossom, Cotton Candy, Firefly, and Glory, there are no International exclusives. They are more slender than the Softies and have other subtle differences as well. The Applause versions are not Hasbro Softies, they have a completely different name. They are My Little Pony however, with the standard My Little Pony logo.

Other closely related issues: Firstly, I believe this list to be complete, I've heard rumors of other International Hasbro Softies, but haven't seen any surface. If there are any, they are not standard U. K. and European issues, they are some type of variants. There are a soft of fabric Brazilian types, this is an example of variants. There are also a variety of Pajama Cases (rare Trickles, Bowtie, and Cotton Candy). They are not listed in this section.

Earth Ponies (Year 2)

Here are the first three Softies to be issued, the were released in Year 2 and released again over the years. All have closed mouths, there are no open mouthed versions. All came with either a white or purple flower brush. Each came with a tag featuring them, and has a little poem for each pony. The poems for these three ponies were the same:

Hi' I'll be your very own soft and sweet little pony.
I have long silky hair to comb, braid, and tie with ribbon.
Take good care of me and I'll be yours forever.
-On the tag of each pony.

Blossom (earth pony) is purple with purple hair and with three white flowers as her symbol (these are commonly mistaken for stars ).  Her eyes and eyelids are purple.
There is a second Blossom plush. The Applause Plush version of Blossom differs from this one she is more slender and has purple flowers instead of white ones.

Bowtie (earth pony) is aqua with pink hair and three pink bows. Her eyes are purple and her eyelids are aqua. She isn't a medium blue like the actual Earth Pony issue.

Cotton Candy (earth pony) is pink with pink hair and three white dots as her symbol. Her eyes are purple and her eyelids are pink.
There is a second version of Cotton Candy. The Applause Plush version of Cotton Candy differs from this one she is more slender and it pink dots instead of white ones.

Earth Ponies (Year 3)

Here are the second Earth Softies to be issued, the first were released in Year 2 and these were released in Year 3. All have closed mouths, there are no open mouthed versions. All came with either a white or purple flower brush. Each came with a tag featuring them, and has a little poem for each pony. From Year 2 to Year 3, the tags had personalized text. Each one having a different message. Posey's card reads: Hi, I'm Posey! I like to skip through my magical tulip garden to gather colorful rainbow bouquets for all my friends in pony land. Will you brush and braid my long silky hair?

These spent less time in stores and on the market, therefore are a little harder to find. I know they were offered at least in 1984 and later again in 1986. Except for Lickety-Split, which in 1986 came packaged as a Mother and Baby Set, not an Earth Pony.

This is Lickety Split's first release, she will make another appearance in 1986, as a mother in the Mother and Baby Sets.

Unicorns and Pegasus (Year 2-Year 4)

Interestingly, there two versions of Firefly and three versions of Moondancer; it is presumable that they were issued in different editions. Some versions have closed mouths and some have opened mouths. The unicorns have a little twisted horn on there heads, either white and some orange. The Pegasus have felt wings, which are accenting with "feathers". All came with a shooting star brush. Each came with a tag featuring them, and has a little poem for each pony with personalized text; each one having a different message.

I will list their tag poems with them, these are some of my favorite ones.
